FOSREF has established, throughout Haiti, various centers and programs that offer a wide range of integrated interventions and services in the areas of Sexual and Reproductive Health, Family Planning, Maternal Health, Prevention, Management and Treatment of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) and HIV/AIDS, Support for cases of Gender-Based Violence (GBV).

FOSREF serves broad categories of target populations, including men and women of childbearing age, young people of both sexes (10 to 24 years old, all categories: schooled, unschooled), sex workers (SW) and their clients, LGBTI, Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) and People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLHIV).

FOSREF

FOSREF is a Haitian non-governmental organization (NGO) serving the Haitian population since 1988. FOSREF is a key partner of the Ministry of Public Health and Population (MSPP).

Mission

Promote and offer Reproductive Health services, Family Planning, Maternal Health, Prevention and treatment of infectious diseases, particularly STI/HIV/AIDS to the Haitian population, and to improve the living conditions of Haitian families through actions on housing, environment, professional education, psychosocial support for vulnerable groups.

Target populations

FOSREF serves large categories of target populations, including: men and women of childbearing age, young people of both sexes (10 to 24 years old, all categories: schooled, unschooled), sex workers (SW) and their clients, LGBTI, Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) and People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLHIV).

Areas covered

FOSREF operates in the ten departments of Haiti, through a network of clinical centers operating in several towns/communes of these departments, in coordination with large community networks of Peer Educators (PE), Community Agents (ASCP and others), and grassroots community organizations (OCB), key partners of FOSREF in its interventions.

Strategies used by FOSREF for its programs

  1. Delivery of integrated counseling/clinical services for Sexual and Reproductive Health, Family Planning, Maternal Health, Prevention, management and treatment of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) and HIV/AIDS, Management of cases of Violence Based on Gender (GBV).
  1. Behavior Change Communication (BCC) strategy at institutional and community level with strong mobilization and community participation.
  2. Advocacy strategy in all areas relating to the promotion and respect of Human Rights, the fight against Stigma and Discrimination against vulnerable groups, the fight against all forms of violence and more particularly GBV.
  1. Organized/formal system of referrals and counter-referrals within the network of FOSREF centers and between FOSREF and other service partners (complementarity and synergy).
